Seattle seeks artworks by mid-career artists
SEATTLE - Seattle’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), seeks to purchase available artworks from mid-career artists for SPU's Portable Works Collection.
Artists with at least 10 years of professional experience and a significant exhibition history are encouraged to apply. The call is open to residents of Washington, Oregon, British Columbia or Alaska. Portable works in all art mediums will be considered.
A panel of arts professionals advised by SPU staff will select the artworks for purchase. The total purchase budget is $100,000 and is supported by SPU 1% for Art funds. The application deadline is 11 p.m. (Pacific Time), Wednesday, Sept. 30. A link to the online application and guidelines is available at www.seattle.gov/arts.

Who owns antiquity ?

The World Affairs Council in Seattle will be hosting Dr. James Cuno, Director of the Art Institute of Chicago, for a lecture at the Seattle Art Museum. Dr. Cuno’s lecture on Tuesday, January 13 will address the topic of who owns antiquity and whether cultural art should be kept as state property or circulated as global heritage. The Council would greatly appreciate your help in advertising for this event

DWR Seattle Studio: Biz Lady Meetup with Design*Sponge editor Grace Bonney

The Seattle studio of Design Within Reach plays host to Design*Sponge blog editor Grace Bonney to introduce a new resource to help women in design make their mark. Bonney runs Design*Sponge, a daily design blog with 30,000 dedicated readers. She is taking her “Biz Lady Meet-up” lecture series on the DWR Studio circuit with guest speakers in the areas of manufacturing, wholesaling, public relations and all things financial. This fully loaded workshop is an excellent opportunity for local designers to meet, network and get advice from the experts.
This is a great opportunity for local women interested in developing their businesses or taking them to the next level. Refreshments will be served, but bringing a snack to share is encouraged. Ladies only, please

Capsule Magazine: Call for designers for 2008


Capsule is looking for product designers, fashion designers, fashion photographers and artists, for this year’s Capsule Magazine 2008. If you or someone you know creates culture, design, art, fashion, or even if you have had the opportunity to work with someone cool in these fields, send us your stuff.
Capsule is a local San Francisco based magazine focused on culture, lifestyle, and the full spectrum of the design disciplines. It reaches the greater bay area with about 15,000 – 20,000 copies. It’s a casual independent magazine published about two or three times a year, May and October are for definite.
If you have an interview piece or pics of your work, please list your direct contact, In general please make sure to send all information that you want posted with your photos, art or what ever -, i.e. your name, contact, a pic, a brief bio etc. in the mag.

Call for exhibitions in City Hall galleries in 2008
Artists and community groups invited to submit proposals reflecting Seattle’s diversity
SEATTLE— The city of Seattle seeks artist and community exhibition proposals for display in two City Hall gallery spaces in 2008.
The galleries — the City Hall Lobby Gallery and the Anne Focke Gallery — focus on artworks that reflect the broad diversity of Seattle’s communities and highlight the work of regional artists, nonprofit organizations and community groups. Previous exhibitions have showcased city neighborhoods and their residents, the work of city departments, the city’s architecture, its jazz musicians and its sister-city relationships.
Group or solo exhibitions are welcome and will be displayed from six to eight weeks. Large exhibitions may be displayed in both the City Hall Lobby Gallery and Anne Focke Gallery.
The galleries are equipped to display 2-D materials. 3-D exhibitions will be considered, providing applicants can furnish necessary display cases. Video and media works will not be accepted. The City Hall Lobby Gallery features eight, 6' x 4' double-sided, metal, peg-board panels. The Anne Focke Gallery features a 120-foot long display wall (with professional hanging system) and is located on the L2 level of City Hall.
A panel of city employees administered by the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs will review the applications and select 2008 exhibitions. Application deadline is (11 p.m., PST) Friday, Dec., 21. The 2008 exhibition cycle will begin in February. All applications must be submitted digitally. A link to the online application is available at www.seattle.gov/arts.
