Carve for a Cause

What can you create with an oversized squash and a good, sharp knife? Design within Reach is partnering with the Architects Without Borders (www.awb-seattle.org) and the Seattle Architecture Foundation (www.seattlearchitecture.org) to sponsor a pumpkin-carving contest like none other. Individuals ($20 donation) and firms ($350 donation) are encouraged to submit their vine-ripened masterpieces to be judged by a panel of local design experts at DWR Seattle. Register at www.awb-seattle.org and start carving your pumpkin for one of the five submission categories: Traditional (Scariest/Most Disturbing); Starchitecture (Best Imitation of a Famous Architect/Character); Freestyle (Most Creative/Artistic); Mystery (Judges’ Choice); and People’s Choice. Drop off your completed jack-o'-lantern at Mithun (Pier 56, 1201 Alaskan Way, Suite 200) from 9am to 3pm on the day of the reception, Thursday, October 30th at DWR Seattle. (Carving will not occur during the reception.) Carvers and noncarvers alike are welcome to attend and vote for the People’s Choice Award. All proceeds will benefit AWB’s current and future projects and further its mission to provide an effective, ecologically sensitive and culturally appropriate response to those in need. Snacks, refreshments and, of course, Halloween candy will be served.
