X-Board: Cool green products made from paper



Ever wonder why IKEA furniture is so light? Want to know what’s inside a hollow core door you might find at Lowe’s or Home Depot? In the production process, many manufacturers of inexpensive furniture will add a structural core of paper or fiberboard support. X-Board is a material which is comes in sheet form employing this construction method. It’s composed of recycled honeycomb material which is sandwiched between two layers of thick paper. When the seemingly flexible and flimsy core material is adhered to the paper surfaces, it gives the material structure and incredible rigidity.

M+D+F 2009: Call for furniture design submissions




Think you might have what it takes to create the next American classic in modern furniture? M+D+F 2009 is a juried exhibition of innovative furniture by emerging designers in the Seattle area. Organized by the DWR Seattle Studio and juried by local creative professionals in the design, architecture, art and fashion worlds, M+D+F provides an opportunity for peer, public and professional recognition for up-and-coming designers and firms. Interested in entering? Submission packages are due by April 3 at 6pm. The winning entries will be presented at the Seattle Studio on May 7.

Phoenix Contemporary Design Fair



The Phoenix Contemporary Design Fair (PCDF) and kontakt magazine invite independent furniture designers to submit original furniture designs for a design competition.

Conceived as a way to connect talented independent designers with furniture resellers and a design savvy public, finalists’ submissions will be displayed in a special section at PCDF and selected designers will be featured in kontakt magazine.

Designs will be reviewed by a panel consisting of furniture store buyers, interior designers, architects and kontakt magazine editors. The top ten designs selected will be displayed at PCDF, April 18-20, 2008. Awards will be given
for best overall design and people’s choice, based on voting by attendees of PCDF.
