Larson Gallery is accepting entries for the 36th National Juried Photography Exhibition. Approximately $3.000 in prize money is awarded in this national biennial juried competition. The exhibition is open to all forms of photography from traditional to experimental, created within the last two years. Entries may be submitted as slides or a CD. The Larson Gallery is pleased to announce this year’s juror, Ellen Garvens, Seattle photographer and artist. Garvens has explored the fusion of photography with other media. Though photography has always been a key elements in her art making, her photographs have become sculpture, drawings and artist books.
Garvens received a BS degree in Art from the University of Wisconsin and an MFA degree from the University of New Mexico. She has received a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship, a National Endowment for the Arts individual Fellowship Grant and an Artist Trust / Washington State Fellowship.
Her work has been reviewed in Arts Magazine, Art on Paper, Sculpture Magazine, The Village Voice, New Art Examiner, The New York Times, Creative Camera- London, and SF Camerawork. Garvens has artwork in collections at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Allen Memorial Art Museum in Oberlin, Ohio, and Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut. Ellen lives and works in Seattle, Washington and teaches at the University of Washington.
Only original artwork not previously shown in a juried exhibition at the Larson Gallery and completed during the preceding two calendar years will be considered. All artwork must be designed and executed by the exhibiting artist. Artwork that is known or suspected to be a direct copy of published/copyrighted material will be disqualified. Non-refundable entry fees are $12 per entry for up to four entries per artist.
