Seattle, WA 98105

The second chapter to Jason's story begins on April 27, 2008, when Jason endures a series of seizures. Only a week before a diagnostic procedure at Swedish Medical Center, Jason and Suzetta hope for a cure to alleviate his overwhelming head and stomach pain. At times this might be difficult to get through, though it is a challenging glimpse of a reality once shared by Jason, Suzetta, and their two kids for three years.

Pecha Kucha (Japanese for the sound of conversation) gathers creative individuals to share their work and ideas in an informal environment. Pecha kucha Night was conceived in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (from Klein Dytham architecture, in Tokyo), as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to showcase their ideas, visions, work/areas of curiosity.

I know its easy to hate them but sometimes a lawyer is a good thing...

Hello creative artists!

Here's a little contest for you. I have joined the board of directors of Washington Lawyers for the Arts. They helped me out once and do much amazing good work for artists of every ilk. Check out thewla.org for more info.

A topic at my first meeting was the naming of their new newsletter. Some ideas were tossed around, but none of them really stood out, so I thought I would set the challenge before the community we are serving. The name will be used for the newsletter letterhead each month and if we use your idea, you win
  • 2 reserved seats to the June 20 Columbia City Cabaret including 1 (one) drink each and chocolate at your table.
The name needs to start with the business name i.e. The Washington Lawyers For The Arts________ (fill in the blank). Something fun or even a bit quirky to disspell the notion of the usual stuffy lawyer stereotype.

Email your ideas to me here by May 5th and I'll let you know what the board decides at the next meeting.

Also! We are interested in profiling artists in this newsletter. If you have had a positive outcome or experience with the WLA we would love to feature your story and a profile of your work. Contact me if you have a story for us and please pass this E-mail around.

Thank you for your time!

xoxo

X-Board: Cool green products made from paper

Ever wonder why IKEA furniture is so light? Want to know what’s inside a hollow core door you might find at Lowe’s or Home Depot? In the production process, many manufacturers of inexpensive furniture will add a structural core of paper or fiberboard support. X-Board is a material which is comes in sheet form employing this construction method. It’s composed of recycled honeycomb material which is sandwiched between two layers of thick paper. When the seemingly flexible and flimsy core material is adhered to the paper surfaces, it gives the material structure and incredible rigidity.

Dwell Innovate It: Call for submissions (phase 2)

Dwell is pleased to announce Innovate It! sponsored by the all-new Volkswagen CC. Our spring 2009 design contest and competition are set up in two phases. First, send in suggestions for everyday objects that you think need a rework. Either they don’t function well, are poorly designed or are just downright useless for the task they were designed to perform. Dwell editors will choose the items for redesign. Then the competition phase launches where you are invited to submit design proposals for recreating one (or all) of the three most tragically troublesome objects. You may participate in one or both phases of this contest and there is no limit to the number of entries.
